Players running across a meadow under the World Tree in Mythwild, with elephants nearby and a rainbow behind

What it is

One big world, and no single quest

Mythwild drops you into one large, hand-built world shared with up to 24 players at a time. There is a forest, a big lake, a savanna with elephants and a lion, a range of Alps, Stonehenge and the World Tree, all inside a ring of mountains. There is also a race circuit, a drag strip, a bike park and a family estate with stables. Nobody tells you where to go first. You decide what to chase, and nearly everything you do counts towards your level.

It runs in any modern browser on a computer, a tablet or a phone, with keyboard and mouse, touch controls or a game controller. You can play as a guest straight away. Make an account if you want to keep your progress on more than one device.

The first time you play, a short tour shows you what the world has, with a picture for each part. At the end you make your character: body, face, hair, clothes and colours, seen on you as you change them.

An F1 car, a supercar, a drift car and GT racers coming down a circuit in Mythwild

Getting around

32 kinds of vehicle, and every one sounds different

Bicycles, skateboards, skates and scooters. Jet skis and hoverboards. Rally cars, GT3 racers, an F1 car, a top fuel dragster, drift machines, monster trucks, a school bus, a backhoe loader and a hover tank. Each has its own body and handling. Each has its own engine note too, built live from the way a real engine fires, with gear changes, turbo whistle and blow-off where one is fitted.

Later come horses, a unicorn, wings, super speed and, for players who beat one, a dragon to ride. Cars you own can be called to you from your garage. The vehicles page lists all 32, where each one is and how to make it yours.

The Sky-Realm: floating violet islands and drifting jellyfish in a starry sky
The Underworld: glowing teal ledges and crystals over a dark void

Places to find

Landmarks, secrets and realms of their own

The map shows the race circuit and its paddock, the lake, the lion's den, the Alps and the Summit, Bruce's estate and Kaléa's bike park. Every landmark you reach goes in your logbook, and the world page walks through them all.

Some places have to be found. The Hollow is a maze in a dark vale, with its own creatures, two Wardens and the Hollow King at its heart. The Rift hides two realms, the Sky-Realm and the Underworld. There you cannot fly or heal, and a fall is the end. Every so often a glowing portal opens for two minutes and leads into the Arena, a fighting world with four classes, a shop and badges of its own.

People to meet

Characters with challenges, and every challenge pays

Bruce runs the mod shop and owns the estate. Kaléa runs the bike park and rides it better than you do. Reneé trains the horses. Wick makes running shoes, including the pair that gives you super speed. Tao-Shan builds off-road rigs. Walt fishes the north pond, Nova jogs her loop with her dog Biscuit, and the Wanderer has four riddles for anyone heading up the mountain.

Your character

Dress for a ride, a fight or a ball

Make your character your own: two bodies and four builds, twelve skin tones and twelve faces, and over twenty hairstyles. Then the clothes: T-shirts, hoodies, blouses and corset tops, skirts, fitted dresses and ballroom gowns, with boots, shoes, makeup and colours to match. You see every change on your character as you make it, and you can come back and change it any time.

The savanna in Mythwild: an elephant under a great tree, with a hippo and a rhino by the water hole

Living things

28 kinds of animal, each with a mind of its own

Ducks and foxes by the lake. Elephants, giraffes, zebras, hippos and a lion on the savanna. Yaks, ibex and snow leopards up in the Alps. They graze, flee, get angry and get curious. You can feed them, pet the tame ones and fill a bestiary as you meet each kind. You can even take the shape of a rabbit, a fox, a bear, a wolf and more yourself. Meet all 28 on the animals page.

Bigfoot, a huge shaggy brown creature with glowing eyes, standing beside a white unicorn with a golden horn

Legends in the woods

Bigfoot and the unicorn

When you hear heavy footsteps in the pines, Bigfoot is out, and the golden tree glows. He does not like visitors in his forest. Every so often a unicorn steps out of the trees, too. Walk up to it and you can ride it and feed it.

A player with a sword facing the Hollow King, a towering armoured skeleton with a crown and blade of ice

Things to fight

Fifteen weapons, and bosses it takes a crowd to bring down

Blades, a bow and a hammer are earned out in the world, from a Rusty Sword to Mjölnir and the Astral Bow, and the best of them have a signature attack. Big beasts roam: the Yeti, the Shark, Bigfoot, the Hollow King, and Níðhöggr, a world-event dragon that everyone in your world can fight together and share the hoard of.

Powers come as you go: binding roots from the World Tree, a charged power blast, flight and gliding, shape-shifting, a cloak, and a storm charge. The weapons page has every blade, every power and every boss.

Thor on the rainbow bridge in the rain, his arm raised, with his hammer Mjölnir flying past

Gods on the bridge

Thor comes down in a storm

Walk the rainbow bridge, the Bifröst, and a storm may gather. Thor lands in the lightning and hurls Mjölnir, and it comes back to his hand. You can play as him too, and as Loki, from the Store.

The Mythwild leaderboards: fastest laps, longest glides and Arena waves

Getting stronger

Levels, characters and daily leaderboards

Treasure found, animals met, races won, bosses beaten: it all adds up to your level, across ten completion tracks. Levels bring titles, more health and new characters to play, from the Robot at level 6 to the Mythwild Titan at 50.

Fastest laps, longest glides, deepest Arena wave and quickest boss kills are ranked on the leaderboards, and the top places earn rewards every day.

Bring a friend

Send an invite link and your friend joins your world, on any device, as long as it has room.

Fight together

World bosses and the dragon Níðhöggr are built to be beaten by a crowd, and the Arena portal opens for the whole world at once.

Chat

Text chat with the players around you, with reporting and a filter built in.

Show off

Dress your character, ride what you have earned, and see whose name is on the boards in the Hall of Records.

Or go alone

Treasure hunts, riddles, the bike park and the horse trials are all yours to take at your own pace.

Play it anywhere

A computer, a phone, or a controller

On a computer, WASD walk, Shift runs, Space jumps and E gets into whatever is in front of you or talks to whoever you face. A strip along the bottom of the screen lists every other key.

On a phone, a floating stick moves you. One round button always says what it will do next: Ride, Talk or Exit. In a car the buttons become pedals. Everything else is in the menu. You can pin your favourite action to a quick button, and swap the whole layout for left-handed play.

With a controller, a standard gamepad walks, drives, fights and turns the camera, and the prompts on screen change to match it.

The full guide lists every control and where to go first.

Made differently

Every sound is made as you play

Mythwild ships no audio files at all. Engines, footsteps, weather, the wind on the Summit and the roar of the lion are all synthesized in your browser while you play. Engine sounds follow real engine physics: firing frequency, gearbox and load.
